Protection of Children's Rights During Media Coverage

On April 15 the "Light and Love Rights Protection" NGO, innitiated a discussion at the Ani Grand Hotel. Rubina Petrosyan, the president of the NGO and a human rights defender, opened the event by presenting the key issues and gaps that led to organizing such discussion. Among the participants of the discussion there were representatives from Armenian state agencies, international organizations, particularly from the UNICEF Armenia office and the Council of Europe office in Yerevan, as well as journalists covering children’s rights, lawyers working in child rights protection, experts, and university lecturers. "I began to notice in various media publications and videos that when journalists cover the rights of children, especially those who are socially disadvantaged and in vulnerable situations, violations are often committed. There is a lack of legal regulation in the legislative framework to ensure the protection of children’s rights and personal data during media coverage. All circumstances that could result in a child being targeted or stigmatized, either immediately or in the future, must be prevented," emphasized R. Petrosyan, human rights defender and president of the "Light and Love Rights Protection" NGO, during the "Protection of Children's Rights During Media Coverage" panel discussion. Speakers at the event included lawyer Ashkhen Dashyan, journalist Arax Mamulyan, Judge Anahit Antonyan from the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction of Kotayk Province, Zara Sargsyan, Head of the Communications Department at UNICEF, and journalist, blogger Zara Ghazaryan.
