Ars Nova Napoli Brings Southern Italy’s Soul to Yerevan

On July 24, an exceptional evening of music dedicated to Neapolitan songs was held at the Aram Khachaturian Concert Hall, with the support of the Embassy of the Italian Republic in Armenia.

The renowned Ars Nova Napoli ensemble brought to life the folk and traditional songs of southern Italy, reinterpreted through a modern lens. Their performance celebrated the rich musical heritage of Naples, blending authenticity with contemporary flair.

The event was attended by the Ambassador of the Italian Republic to Armenia, H.E. Alessandro Ferranti. “I would like to thank you for the warm welcome,” he said. “We’ve only been in Armenia for a day, but we’ve already noticed many cultural similarities. In southern Italy, music and dance are closely tied to religious festivals. Our performances showcase Italian folk music and our traditional national dance, the tarantella.”
For accordionist and vocalist Marcello Squillantini, it was a pleasant surprise to see that the Armenian audience was familiar with the iconic Italian tarantella.

Violinist and trumpeter Michelangelo Nusco also shared his impressions of visiting Armenia: “Our experience has been wonderful. We’ve explored Yerevan and absolutely loved the city and Armenian cuisine. Visiting the Vernissage [market] was especially fascinating.”

The Ars Nova Napoli ensemble delivered all the warmth and vibrant energy characteristic of southern Italy. The concert was marked by passionate performances, emotional resonance, and an uplifting atmosphere.
