Spain Reports One-Day Record Death Toll From Coronavirus

Spain has the third most cases of the coronavirus behind the U.S. and Italy and has the second most deaths behind Italy.

SPAIN RECORDED ITS highest single-day death toll from the coronavirus Monday into Tuesday as 849 people died.

Spain's Health Ministry reported on Tuesday that it diagnosed 9,222 new cases of the virus and saw 849 deaths in a single day.

The country has reported more than 94,400 cases of COVID-19 and nearly 8,200 deaths since the coronavirus pandemic began. Spain has the third most cases behind the U.S. and Italy and has the second most deaths behind Italy, which has seen nearly 11,600 people die from the virus.

Globally, cases of the coronavirus top 800,000 and deaths exceed 38,700.

Spain, as well as Italy, held a moment of silence Tuesday to honor those who have died from the coronavirus. The two countries now account for more than half of the world's total death toll.
